Tom Adler
became interested in allergies completely by accident. He suffered from
Hay Fever and Asthma as a child, so you might say that allergies found
him. He majored in Pre Med, intending to follow in the footsteps of
his father, a Radiologist, but when Tom entered UC Irvine-California
College of Medicine, he was drawn to a “patient-centered”
specialty, - Allergy. In medical school, he was active in the Phi Delta
Epsilon medical fraternity, and he also took an undergraduate fellowship
in Pathology. He went on to a medical Internship and Residency at LA
County-USC Medical Center and took his Allergy and Immunology Fellowship
at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he worked with Dr Gildon Beall
on thyroid autoimmunity and with Dr. Doug Heiner on IgG4 immune responses
in grass pollen sensitive asthmatics.
After 7 years of Allergy Practice in Medford Oregon, Tom met Dr Ann
Spataro, of Rochester NY at a medical conference, and upon their marriage,
Tom elected to move to Rochester where he has practiced Allergy and
Internal Medicine since 1989. He and Ann have two grown daughters. They
enjoy cycling, skiing, hiking and Tom is the Patrol Leader for the Genessee
Valley Nordic Ski Patrol
In addition to giving many talks to physicians and the public on Allergies
and Asthma, Tom has authored several scientific articles on subjects
ranging from drug allergies, to grass pollen induced asthma, to anaphylaxis.
He is Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology as well as Internal
Medicine. He is a Clinical Instructor in Medicine at the University
of Rochester, and he serves on the Allergy Advisory Committee of Rochester
Independent Practice Association. He is on the Medical Staff of 3 local
hospitals – RGH, Park Ridge, and Lakeside. He joined Dr Scott
Valet in 1996 and now confines his practice to Allergy, Asthma and Clinical
Immunology.
